Alva Design

ALVA is a Brazilian furniture and objects design studio, founded in 2012 by siblings Susana Bastos, artist and fashion designer, and Marcelo Alvarenga, architect. Cleverly intertwining their backgrounds in architecture and art, they create contemporary and functional design objects. For Gardeco, ALVA conceived the AOI and AMORFA- lines consisting of beautiful vases in soft soapstone, a natural crystalline rock sourced locally in the region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Using a lathe and scraping tools, solid blocks of soap stone are turned into strikingly beautiful creations with stand-out silhouettes. The colour of soapstone can vary from a gentle beige to bright blue and silvery grey.
